Enterprise Social Networks Fail Without the Proper Approach

"Enterprise social networking (ESN) software can improve communication and collaboration among employees, but most companies aren’t implementing and using these products properly, leading to unmet goals, according to a new study. ESN software can help organizations by boosting information-sharing among employees and improving cross-departmental collaboration, among other benefits, but missteps in planning and execution abound, according to the Altimeter Group study “Making the Business Case for Enterprise Social Networking.”

A Drupal social platform for Occupy

"Since the Occupy movement broke out last September, a number of us Drupalfolks have been hard at work on a large, Drupal-based social network built specifically for large social movements, particularly Occupy. It's gotten mainstream press coverage in Wired and the Village Voice already, and is pretty well embedded as a known, ongoing project in the movement itself. (Those articles really do give some good background) And if you know anything about how movements work, you know that such buy-in is no small thing."

UNESCO launches World Atlas of Gender Equality in Education

"Twenty years ago, a young girl starting school in sub-Saharan Africa could expect to receive about five years of education during her entire life – and part of that time might have been spent repeating grades. Today, she can expect to spend about eight years in a classroom. But the boy sitting next to her is likely benefit from an extra 18 months of instruction. This remarkable yet uneven progress comes to life in a new atlas on gender and education, released by UNESCO for International Women’s Day 2012, celebrated on 8 March."
