UNHCR Relaunches data.unhcr.org

The United Nation's Refugee Agency, launched a new iteration of data.unhcr.org, along with a significant redesign to its information sharing portals. Providing open data has become a critical tool in UNHCR's response to refugee crises. With 1 million refugees now in Syria, the largest current situation, UNHCR is providing data and operations information through data.unhcr.org to improve coordination and the overall on-the-ground response. The redesign marks the first release of the work Development Seed has been doing with the UNHCR GIS and data team.

“A Million Times” is a new project by humans since 1982. It’s similar to their The Clock Clock project, this time they’ve used 288 clocks which can be controlled by an iPad. We’ve seen stuff like this before, but it’s still mesmerizing."

"Created by LAb[au] Moza1que (French word for mosaic) is a permanent artwork for ‘La Maison Mécatronique’ in Annecy-Le-Vieux, France. The main wall of the entrance hall 3.4m x 6m is divided in 26×15 squares, each motorised by a linear actuator with a range of 10cm. The individual control of the motion creates different three-dimensional reliefs of geometric patterns evolving following the logics of cellular automata."
